Straight Up Bets

  1. Football Expert Picks Straight Up

The straight up bet in roulette, is an inside bet (as is a corner bet) on a single number (or group of single numbers). It pays out 35:1, but bear in mind that there are 37 numbers in a wheel (or 38 on an American Roulette wheel), so your odds are less. In a straight bet, when you are betting on a – point spread -, bookmakers create a line or spread for the game. This is a way for sportsbooks to separate between the two teams playing. An example of this is if the St. Louis Rams are a 3-point favorite over the Arizona Cardinals. The Rams will not be given to you to pick straight up (no spread), so you bet them via the odds. Now, the Rams would have to win by more than 3 points for you to win the bet.

Straight Up Roulette Bets

Roulette is a popular casino game that has often been called the 'King of Casino Games,' because of its popularity and because of the fact that it has frequently been associated with the glitz and glamour of the casinos of Monte Carlo during the end of the nineteenth century. A roulette wheel has thirty-six pockets arranged in alternating black and red, and numbered from one to thirty-six. American roulette wheels also have two green pockets, numbered zero, and double zero; whereas the European roulette wheel only has one green pocket, numbered zero.

The roulette wheel is set to spin in one direction, and the casino employee sets a small white ball on the roulette wheel's tilted track, and sends it spinning in the opposite direction. The winning number for a single game of roulette is determined when the roulette ball lands in one of the pockets on the wheel. From this simple concept, a lot of different kinds of bets have been developed.

Bets

A Straight Up roulette bet is the simplest kind of bet a person can make when they play roulette. With a Straight Up, a person simply bets on a single number, and that the roulette ball will land in that number. A Straight Up is an example of an inside bet, which is a type of roulette bet where a person bets on a single number, or small groups of numbers based on their positions on the roulette table.

As opposed to an inside bet, outside bets are when a person bets on the color of the pocket in which the ball will land, or on large groups of numbers based range (such as from one to eighteen or nineteen to thirty-six) or on how they've been arranged on the roulette table. Because outside bets generally have a larger range, they have better odds at winning, but smaller payouts. Conversely, inside bets, while a little more difficult to win, generally have larger payouts than outside bets.

Straight

The Straight Up bet has the most challenging odds of all the different kinds of bets, because a person's chances of winning on this kind of bet are only one in thirty-seven, on an American roulette wheel, and one in thirty-six on a European one. Because of this, a Straight Up also has the highest payout.

A Straight Up bet's payout is thirty-five to thirty-four dollars for every dollar that they bet, and the gambler gets to keep the amount that they had originally put in. This means that, if a person should win at roulette with a Straight Up, they will be getting not only the initial amount of their wager, but thirty-four to thirty-five times that amount, on top of that.
